Spreckles' Home Page

Okay, so I know it's really trite to give our cat her own home page, but it does make a nice place to put her pictures!
The last time we saw Spreckles was July 22, 2006, when she accompanied me (Win) on my walk down to the mailbox - it was part of our routine, walking down the driveway and back. There was no sign of her the next day, and none since then. Susan likes to think she's found another home in our neighborhood where she can relax in a Vinnie-free environment; I'm more pessimistic, since we really do live out in the sticks, and there are certainly predators around. But we both wish her well, wherever she is, and we had a very happy eight years together.

Spreckles on the hutch In Jan, 2003, Spreckles attempted to lay claim to the top of the hutch, despite the fact that Vinnie is the one who's usually there. Susan said, "If the phone rings, she's going to have a heart attack!" (Yes, that's a scar on her neck - it's much better than it was before!)

Spreckles: Is this a dagger which I see before me? In early May 2001, Spreckles contemplated the dangers of everyday life, and realized that there are times to lash one's tail, and time to wrap one's tail about one's self.

Spreckles on the deck This long-shadowed picture was taken in the Fall of 1999, and is one of the few instances where she was willing to stand still long enough to get her picture taken! (Lying down poses less of a problem, of course.)

Spreckles on the papers This was also taken in the Fall of 1999, and it demonstrates Proof of Catness: She knows how to strike the standard meatloaf pose, complete with wrapped-around tail. Isn't that reassuring?

Her name, "Spreckles" comes from a combination of "spots" and "freckles," neither of which is an accurate description of a calico, but it'll do. (It's also an allusion to a Larry Niven creation - do you know which one?) We rarely call her by name, preferring such cute terms as "Kitty-Boo." Further Proof of Catness: She rarely responds, no matter what we call her.
