New! Mar 2007
Frieda is obviously a very wily hunter - she stalks the birds at the birdbath.
She seems to think that the closer she sits, the more likely it is that
she'll catch something.
This picture is a bit blurry, because it's zoomed in quite a bit.
When she spots me with the camera, she has to come over and see what
I'm doing, so it's necessary for a photographer to be stealthy.
The Town Lake Animal Center gave this kitten the name "Frida" — probably because her "mustache" reminded them of Frida Kahlo. Personally, we though it had more of a Charlie Chaplin look, but a name's a name, so we merely Germanicized it to "Frieda," and we usually call her "Fee." We brought her home on Aug 25, 2006; they said she was about a year and a half old. (Valentine's Day, 2005, maybe?)
The good news is, although Vinnie originally wanted nothing to do with her, they eventually became peaceful and even friendly companions. The bad news is, Vinnie disappeared soon afterwards. We still miss Vinnie, as well as Spreckles.
She's quite good at posing, such as while admiring the outside world
from our big window. But she's still a youngster, so it's not unusual for
her to scamper up and down the hall. When Susan met her at the shelter,
she curled right up for some peaceful lap-cat time. Since then, she has
refused - forcefully - any offers for more lap time.
We might just have to add some sound files to this page - when she's
out and wants in, or when she's in and wants out, or when she's in need
of attention, or when she's otherwise occupied with kittie-thoughts, she
meows. A lot. No, I mean it - non-stop meowing. Noisiest cat I've ever heard.
The newly-arrived kitty, hiding under a chair. These days, she spends
her time on top of that same chair, using it as a scratching post.
I just love the feathering between the white and black areas on her -
I'm much more used to a sharp distinction, so this is a novelty to me.
